Winner: Ric Hardacre

Runner-up: Ed Broom

Some 60 people gathered in the Spiegel Tent at Christchurch Park, Ipswich, on Friday evening to hear the result of the Ip-art Short Story Prize. Before the presentations though, the audience were treated to a fascinating and animated conversation between award winning author M.J Hyland and Georgina Wroe.

A third voice in the conversation was to have been another outstanding author – Sarah Hall, but sadly she was ill and unable to be there.

David Gill, Professor of Archaeological Heritage and Head of the Division of Humanities at UCS, introduced the presentations before M.J Hyland, stepping in for Sarah Hall, presented the prizes for the Competition.

The winner was Ric Hardacre for his ‘well-paced and ultimately shocking story, ‘Cache’ with its beautiful description, and a frightening suggestiveness.’

Runner-up was Ed Broom with his story ‘Things You Didn’t Know You Didn’t Need’, described by Sarah Hall as ‘a story that is funny and profound, whimsical and very observant.'

The winning stories are available here| and to be published in the East Anglian Daily Times, broadcast on ICR (Ipswich Community Radio) and on the Ip-art website|.
