Eight UCS students had their first training last week to become Champions for the London 2012 Games, to enable them to promote Get Set, the official London 2012 education programme.
The students, who have all been educated in Suffolk, will spend the next few months building relationships with five Suffolk schools to help encourage them to sign up to the Get Set Network. They will work with local schools to explain the opportunities that Get Set provides, sharing practical examples of how schools are already taking advantage of the Games to inspire learning across the curriculum. The Champions will also be on hand to provide practical support, helping schools complete the required application forms to join the Network.
As an added incentive, any schools fully registered as members of the Get Set network before 16 December 2011 will get the opportunity to receive an allocation of free tickets for the Games through the London 2012 Ticketshare initiative. The UCS Games Champions will be sharing this message and helping schools to meet the deadline for securing tickets.
This is an excellent opportunity for the UCS students, who have the chance to play their part in creating a legacy for Suffolk from London 2012 while gaining valuable employability skills and developing their CVs. The Games Champions will also benefit from support and training provided by UCS, and a £50 voucher to spend on books to support their studies.
The project is funded by Podium, the Further and Higher Education unit for the 2012 Games set up to build engagement between the education sector and London 2012.
