Following the successful launch of the Community Grant Scheme in 2010, UCS is pleased to announce the opening of the fund for a second year.
Local groups and individuals are invited to bid for small pots of money between £50 - £250 to support local events or activities that benefit members of the community in Suffolk and Great Yarmouth.
Grants are mainly awarded for educational or community focused projects or activities and are normally given on a one off basis. Bids are assessed for their impact in terms of the number of people that will benefit, the sustainability of the project, the potential to raise the profile of the Waterfront and the educational purpose of the project.
Polly Bridgman, Director of External Relations, explains: “Community Engagement is very important to UCS and this scheme is just one of the many ways that we work to embed ourselves in the local community and to help to enrich cultural life.”
Six local organisations were awarded grants last year. They were Suffolk Artlink, Suffolk Coastal Petanque Alliance, Holy Trinity Church PCC, The Salvation Army Coffee Break Group, The Ipswich Polish Group, and the Laxfield and District Museum.
Jay Harvey, from Holy Trinity Church, Ipswich said: “We were really pleased to be successful in our UCS grant application last year. The scheme works well as the applications don't have to be big projects - thanks to our funding we were able to install a brand new bench in our churchyard, which now benefits local residents and visitors to the church.”
Applications for this year’s Community Grant Scheme will be accepted up until the 3 January 2012.
