UCS Otley students start new term with team building

First year students started a new term at UCS Otley this week with an introduction to their courses, followed by a tour of the college and a warm welcome from tutors.

Day two saw the students travel to the UCS Waterfront building where they received a thorough induction into life, facilities and support for UCS students, and lter in the week, sports learners at Otley College led team building lessons including archery, climbing and mountain biking.

This year, landscape and garden designers will get the chance to take part in a study visit to the Netherlands and animal learners have the opportunity of visiting a wildlife park in South Africa.

Last year, students competed, and won medals at the Suffolk Show, for their design work, and also received a master class from TV gardener, Chris Beardshaw. Mia Witham, one of the UCS Otley lecturers appeared in the BBC TV show, DIY SOS.

“We are delighted to welcome our new Higher Education students to UCS Otley – based at the site of Otley College – this year,” said Head of Higher Education, Denis McAuley.

“This will be the third year that we have taught courses in conjunction with UCS and we have really enjoyed working closely with them.

“We still have a few places left on some courses, so it’s not too late to get in touch if you want to find out more.”

 

Courses being taught this year include animal science and welfare, fishery management, landscape and garden design, professional studies, wildlife management and conservation and teacher training.
