Staff from the UCS School of Nursing and Midwifery| last week hosted two seminars in recognition of their 10 year partnership with Keio University, Japan.

The second of these focused on Major Disasters and as a result the yearly visit from Nursing Professors and students from Japan was especially poignant, following the devastating effects of the earthquake and tsunami on their country earlier this year.

Two eminent professors from Keio University and nursing students presented papers on the health effects and support following the disaster and local presentations were also made to reflect on Suffolk and East Anglia’s response to such disasters.

There has been much in the media recently regarding the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the USA, which meant that the seminar looking at the Japanese response and the preparation of Suffolk for natural and manmade events was both timely and thought provoking.
