A delegation from UCS was recently invited to attend a reception at the Azerbaijan Embassy in London, as part of an on-going programme to develop relations between Ipswich and the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.
Ipswich as a town has built strong links with Azerbaijan over the last year and in particular is looking forward to hosting the Azerbaijan Olympic Team in 2012. UCS is keen to expand these links to include not only aspects of these sporting ambitions, but education, tourism and business too.
Professor Mike Saks (Provost), Professor Brendon Noble (Head of School, School of Science, Technology and Health), Ms Polly Bridgman (Director of External Relations and Marketing) and Ms Bilgeis Mamedova (International Liaison Officer), attended the meeting with the Ambassador last month to introduce him to the institution and the wide range of programmes that are now on offer, as well as discussing how UCS could build on going partnerships with Baku and Azerbaijan.
This meeting comes ahead of a planned to visit Baku in October later this year at which UCS representatives hope to meet with the Azerbaijani Minister of Education, Mr Misir Mardanov, and the Ministers for Sport and Youth, and Culture and Tourism, to discuss opportunities for collaboration, research and development.
