Mia Witham, a part-time lecturer on the UCS Otley foundation degree course in landscape and garden design, was recently approached by the team who create BBC television’s DIY SOS to work on a specific project in Dartford, Kent.

The show will be broadcast at 9pm tonight on BBC 1.

Swedish born Mia, who also has her own garden design company, agreed to create a sensory garden on the show and took part in the filming of the programme over a ten day period in her own time.

Mia said, “We were only given a tiny budget to work with, so this project was a true challenge.

“I can’t say too much about what happened because the programme is yet to air, however, the experience was amazing and the presenters and crew were incredibly friendly and put me at ease.”

“It felt like a real team effort and I learnt a great deal. I have already held a class with my students about my experiences and I’m really looking forward to seeing the show on the 9th of August."

BBC DIY SOS is hosted by presenter, Nick Knowles. He and a team of professionals – along with family, friends and trades people - help transform the homes of families in Britain.
