Waterline exhibition open to visitors

This week saw the opening of a brand new exhibition in the Waterfront Gallery at University Campus Suffolk. Entitled Waterline, all pieces submitted are from UK based contemporary artists who have taken their inspiration from water.

The initial national call for entries resulted in around 70 submissions, from which an independent panel of experts selected eleven pieces from eight artists for display. The artworks selected cover a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation.

This is the first exhibition at the Gallery to be curated by an invited artist and UCS is pleased to welcome award-winning artist Jane Grisewood. Jane has participated in many exhibitions, residencies and collaborative projects in the UK and abroad.

Jane explained that through the exhibition “local audiences and visitors to Ipswich are provided with an opportunity to view innovative and diverse contemporary art. It is my hope that we have produced an interesting and thought-provoking exhibition that celebrates local and national artists in our fitting ‘waterline’ location on Neptune Quay.”

The exhibition is sponsored by Hawksmoor Investment Management, who have kindly donated £500 for the judges' selected prize. Regional Director at Hawksmoor, Max Weatherby explained: “As investment managers, part of our role is to explore new ideas and identify future themes and trends for inclusion in our clients’ portfolios. This exhibition explores many new ideas around the waterline theme from artists across the UK.”

Waterline runs for five weeks until 4th September, and also forms part of the Maritime Ipswich Festival, which will attract thousand of visitors to Ipswich Waterfront.
