UCS Senior Lecturer in Photography, Heike Löwenstein|, has travelled across the Atlantic Ocean to New York, USA, to showcase her new photography project. With her, she has taken a group of UCS photography| and graphic design| students to experience the show and the city.

The week long exhibition, entitled ‘Surveys from a Small Island’, opened at Umbrella Arts, New York, on 23 June where the group of 11 students have been responding to the theme of the exhibition by producing their own surveys of the ‘small island’. Heike’s work is based on her practice based PhD studies at the Glasgow School of Art and images from her project ‘PeopleSpaces which form part of the exhibition, featuring nine other contemporary photo-artists.

Heike and fellow UCS lecturer Matthew Andrew| have recently setup thenetwerk|, a website which forms part of a photography research group with colleagues based across East Anglia. By the website you are able to follow the group’s progress on the trip.
