UCS Senior Lecturers, Dr. Emma Bond| and Tim Goodchild|, will be presenting their initial research findings into technology in learning and teaching at UCS during an international conference in Barcelona, Spain.

They will present their initial findings to more than 700 delegates from 70 different countries at EduLearn11|- the third annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies. The conference, which takes place on 4 July 2011, provides academics from across the world with an International Forum to present their projects and discuss the latest innovations and results in the field of New Technologies in Education, E-learning and methodologies applied to Education and Research.

The study, funded by ILTS (UCS’ allocation for enhancing learning and teaching), explores staff perceptions and experiences of using technology in learning and teaching at UCS.

Dr. Bond, Senior Lecturer in the School of Applied Social Sciences at UCS, said of the research: “Currently universities are striving to exploit an increasingly media-rich environment to create greater accessibility to education and although the use of technology is often viewed as a catalyst for change in learning and teaching, it is actually underpinned by the demand for quality improvement in learning and teaching.”

Tim Goodchild, Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at UCS, added: “Technologies cannot magically transform learning and do not exist apart from the institution but are integral as part of a sort of ‘socio-technical network’. It is essential to understand not only how technologies develop, but how actually people use them and the implications that they have on learning and on social cohesion in the educational environment.”
