On Thursday 24 March, the
School of Nursing and Midwifery| at University Campus Suffolk (UCS) proudly opened the new, state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Centre in the
James Hehir Building|, located on the Ipswich Waterfront. The centre consists of specifically designed rooms which provide an advanced and stimulating environment for clinical skills learning.
Guests were welcomed into the centre by Professor Mike Saks, UCS Provost and Chief Executive, which will be utilised by pre and post registration health and social care students studying various professional courses at UCS. In addition, working with local health and social care providers, UCS aims to expand the opportunity and provision of clinical skills learning with specifically tailored study sessions.
In attendance was Martin Clarke, Area Manager of
Laerdal Medical Ltd|, with whom UCS has formed a mutually supportive working relationship over the years. Laerdal Medical have provided the centre with a wide range of clinical skills equiptment, including a SimMan® and SimBaby™ which are state of the art computerised manikins. These, together with the new centre will help ensure that clinical skills acquisition and simulation learning remains enjoyable and effective for all participants.
Carol Smith, Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, said: “I was delighted to welcome UCS staff and visitors from the health service to the new facility. Practice learning in all our programmes will be enhanced and certainly puts UCS in the forefront of facilities available within a university setting.”
The official opening of the James Hehir Building will take place on 30 March 2011 and will be marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony and the sealing of a time capsule.
