Sweet music for UCS students

First year Foundation Degree students at UCS Bury St Edmunds are taking on the challenge of recording a 60 piece symphony orchestra in the Apex, Bury St Edmunds.

Students on the FdA Music Production course| have been asked to record the first ever performance in the new concert hall by Suffolk Sinfonia, under the baton of conductor Neil Carlson, on Saturday 19 March  2011.

They will take sole responsibility for the recording, editing and mixing of the performance under the supervision of Course Director Steven Coltart.

Steven said: “The Foundation degree in Music Production is heavily based around real-world projects and experience; the ‘Live Sound Recording’ module is just one example of that.”

This is the fourth year running that FdA Music Production| students have recorded Suffolk Sinfonia. The programme will include pieces by Walton, Mahler and Berlioz.

The same students will also be recording a performance of contemporary, classical music at Snape Maltings’ Orchestral Conservatoire on Sunday 27 March.
