A UCS Otley lecturer recently took part in a popular TV programme. Mia Witham, from Walsham-le-Willows in Suffolk, was approached by the team who create BBC television’s DIY SOS.

The part time lecturer, who teaches landscape and garden design| on a UCS Otley Foundation degree course, was asked to work on a specific project in South East England.

Swedish born Mia, who also has her own garden design company, agreed to create a sensory garden on the show. She took part in the filming of the programme over a ten day period in her own time. The episode with Mia will be broadcast this autumn.

Mia said: “We were only given a tiny budget to work with, so this project was a true challenge."

“I can’t say too much about what happened because the programme is yet to air, however, the experience was amazing and the presenters and crew were incredibly friendly and put me at ease.”

“It felt like a real team effort and I learnt a great deal. I have already held a class with my students about my experiences and I’m really looking forward to seeing the show later in the year.”

BBC DIY SOS is hosted by presenter, Nick Knowles. He and a team of professionals, along with family, friends and trades people, help transform the homes of families in Britain.
