Richard Lister has been appointed as Deputy Provost (Professional Services) of UCS. Richard has worked at UCS since 2006 and was previously Director of Planning and Resources and Executive Director.
Richard has spent most of his career pioneering work in schools liaison and widening participation and was a founder member of both the Schools Liaison Officers Group and its successor; the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association. In 2002 he was seconded from the University of Essex to establish its Southend Campus and then in 2004 moved to develop the plans for the joint initiative between the University of Essex and University of East Anglia to develop UCS, a unique venture involving two Universities and five Colleges of Further and Higher Education in the establishment of a new Higher Education Institution. The project moved rapidly from initial outline thinking in 2004 to the opening of UCS in 2007 and its subsequent rapid growth both in student numbers and its modern campus in Ipswich. Richard has also previously worked at Brunel, Hull and Essex Universities.
The post of Deputy Provost at UCS will be responsible for five new administrative directorates: IT, Estates, Academic Services, Partnerships and Planning, and External Relations and Marketing.
Richard commented: “This is a really interesting role at a time of great change and challenge for higher education. I have been involved in UCS since it was merely the glimmer of an idea and I am determined to help the organisation prosper in the difficult times that lie ahead.”
