MP pays visit to UCS

On the evening of 18 November Ben Gummer, recently elected MP for Ipswich, made a presentation on the subject of ‘rewarding employees during a recession’.

The event was hosted by UCS at the Waterfront Building in Ipswich as part of the business outreach programme. The event was attended by the local membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, as well as others from the local Business community, and current and past students of the UCS Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management.

Mr Gummer explained the Coalition Government’s current economic strategy, and outlined his views regarding the implications of this for employers in both the public and private sectors. He then related this to the challenges employers faced to achieve employee motivation and engagement through difficult commercial times.

Mr Gummer was happy to answer questions, and the event was very well received by the audience.

The next CIPD event to be hosted by UCS will be an Employment Law Update, scheduled for 7.30pm on 27 April 2011. Details available from Terry Wales on t.walesucs.ac.uk|
