UCS has established a Community Grant Scheme that allows local groups and individuals to bid for small pots of money to support local events or activities that benefit members of the community in Suffolk and Great Yarmouth.
Grants can be awarded to support a range of activities and groups within local communities. These can include (this list is not exclusive):
• Local community events
• The operation of community/charity groups
• Clubs with an educational nature
• Sports facilities or activities
• Special equipment for community groups, schools and colleges
• Student activities (community engagement or extra curricular activities)
• Promotion of the Arts
• Adult education
In this first year of the scheme members of the public can apply for grants of between £50 and £250 to support their project. The closing date for applications is 3 December 2010 and all projects must be completed by 31 July 2011.
Polly Bridgman, who manages the Community Engagement Office, said: “We are really excited about the Community Grant Scheme and I am looking forward to engaging with a wide range of community groups. When UCS opened its doors in 2007, we said that its arrival would benefit everyone in the community - not just students.”
Miss Bridgman went on to say: “community engagement is about communicating and sharing knowledge with the local community, enriching cultural life and providing a service to our communities. All of our activity should be mutually beneficial both to the public and to UCS and complement our primary contribution to society of providing education.”
