UCS Ipswich and Coastal Grand Prix

A weekend of cycling for Ipswich

Ipswich and Suffolk Coastal hosted an exciting weekend of cycling on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September.

Keen cyclists were able to ride the sportive, watch the Pro's race, and then ride on traffic free streets for the Ipswich Sky Ride.

Saturday 7 September - UCS Ipswich and Coastal Giro D'Espresso

This sportive was a brand new event and presented a unique opportunity for keen cyclists to ride the route of the UCS Ipswich and Suffolk Coastal Grand Prix, which happened on the following day. All organisation and registration for the sportive was managed by British Cycling|.

Sunday 8 September - UCS Ipswich and Coastal Grand Prix

The UCS Ipswich and Coastal Grand Prix is a new elite cycling road race, which was timed to coincide with the run-up to the 2013 Tour of Britain.

Spectators had the opportunity to see British professional teams race a 200km course that reached south east of Ipswich through Kesgrave, Martlesham and heading out to Rendlesham Forest via Woodbridge to complete a number of loops of a circuit based around the villages of Sutton, Alderton and Hollesley before racing back into town for a technical finale on the Waterfront. The UCS Ipswich and Coastal Grand Prix was organised by the Events Team at Ipswich Borough Council|.

Sunday 8 September - Ipswich Sky Ride|

Sky Ride Ipswich is a great opportunity to ride with family and friends in a very special atmosphere. Participants could join the route at any point, and ride it as many times as they wished. This year's Sky Ride Ipswich was an accessible cycling event. To help support this event, Cycling Projects offered adapted bikes for hire and to support disabled people wishing to take part.More information about Sky Ride is available on the Sky Ride website|.
