Aims of the course
This is a short introductory course that will introduce the participant to some of the key topics within criminology and public discourse. Students will gain an introductory appreciation of both criminology as an academic discipline and the criminal justice system.
This short course is intended to offer students the opportunity to challenge the 'common-sense' approach to crime and crime control offered by politicians and the popular media. It is also hoped that there will be an increased awareness of the issues that affect those involved in criminal activity; victims of crime and those charged with tackling crime.
Who is this course for?
This course is intended for anyone who has an interest in criminal justice policies; media representation of crime and those that may be considering studying criminology at degree level. It is also recommended that all participants should be at least 17 years old.

This is an informal course that will encourage student participation throughout, via tutor led discussions; group discussions together with question and answer sessions.
